A hiking enthusiast's guide to Kungsleden
Hike Day 3: Alesjaure to Tjäktja >> 13 km
It was supposed to be a moderate hike with a steep climb in the end and we had an entire day for it.
It was a bright and warm day. The hike started pretty easy in the valley. Soon we started crossing narrow streams and thus could fill up our water bottles with glacial water. We stopped to make lunch somewhere along the way, on the rocks. As we went further, we encountered some wetlands as the snow had just started to melt. Before the final ascent to Tjäktja, we had to cross a massive stream, and we ended up with wet socks and shoes! Luckily a couple of kilometres away was the destination of the day! As we hiked up, we could see the Tjäktja hut on the other side of the bridge. We pitched our tents and resigned for the night.
Note: Tjäktja is the highest point in the trail, ~1140 metres. The hut does not have any shop. Many pro-hikers prefer to cover Alesjaure to Sälka in one day (13 km + 12 km), by taking only a short stop at Tjäktja.
